THERMAL, OPTICAL AND MOTION PHENOMENA

Going from describing in words
and by plots
to building a mathematical model.

First phase
We interpreted the four plots given to us by university researchers. We have imagined phenomena from the plots in a totally free manner. Then we concentrated our attention on plot number two and we discussed in network with our classmates of Andezeno and Sorrento our mutual criticism and interpretations.

Third phase
We built a mathematical model for points a) and b) of experiment number three.

Second phase
We carried out some experiments to verify our interpretations.
  • experiment 1: We warmed and cooled down a mass of water.
  • experiment 2: We studied the motion of a remote-controlled car.
  • experiment 3: We studied the second part of the plot changing the light intensity.

We already known this quantity because two years ago we measured and put in network light intensity at twelve o’clock of equinox and solstices.

Light intensity decreases:
a) when the distance from the light source increases.
b) when the thickness of the material the light goes through increases.

We tested experimentally these dependences.
